About Me
Hi, I’m Ellie Kay — ADHD Coach, Trainer, Mediator, 4x Entrepreneur, Apprentice Candidate, and Proud ADHDer.
I’ve always known my brain worked a little differently. Growing up in the ‘80s and ‘90s, ADHD wasn’t really talked about - especially not in girls. I loved school, was confident, popular, and genuinely curious. But I also got told off for forgetting homework or challenging things I didn’t agree with. Classic ADHD, right?
At university, I studied Psychology and graduated with a 2:1 thanks to my ability to hyperfocus on assignments I found fascinating - especially anything to do with how the mind works.
After uni, I fell into sales and landed a spot on the Cadbury’s graduate scheme, eventually making my way into the fast paced world of recruitment. At 27, I launched my first recruitment business (which turned over £1.8 million). At 34, I made a very ADHD style impulsive decision to apply for The Apprentice - and got on! I lasted 5 weeks before being getting fired - I think I was just too nice.
At 35, I started a headhunting and executive search firm, which I ran for 13 years before retraining as a coach, trainer, and mediator.
Getting my ADHD diagnosis at 45 was a turning point. Everything suddenly made sense. Now, it’s my mission to help fellow ADHDers understand their minds, embrace their strengths, and navigate the challenges. I also work with businesses to help them create neurodiversity inclusive workplaces and get the best from their teams.
I’m a CPD certified ADHD coach, and soon to be ICF and CMC accredited. I bring both lived experience and deep professional insight to the table—understanding what it’s like to feel different, and what it takes to run a business with all the complexity of people, pressure, and politics.
My personal journey hasn’t been simple. I was diagnosed with cervical cancer at 29, which meant I could never have biological children. But life has its own beautiful way of unfolding. I’m now in my second marriage and a proud mum to two incredible kids - neither of whom I made, but both of whom I love deeply.
These experiences help me connect with others on a real level - especially women navigating tough, often unspoken parts of life. In my coaching, there’s no judgment - just acceptance, honesty, and forward momentum. It’s about embracing who we are, not who we’re told to be.
